Field Characters: Large canopy tree (12-24 m high) or Small sub-canopy tree; Bole cylindrical (up to c. 60 cm diam.); crooked or straight (bole up to c. 15 m long); buttresses buttresses present (buttresses 0.3-1 m lomg) or buttresses absent; spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark grey, rough, pustular, lenticels elongated vertically; Subrhytidome (under-bark) green; less than 25 mm thick, 10.0-12.0; bark blaze consisting of one layer; strongly aromatic; pleasant; outer blaze white or pink, markings absent, fibrous; inner blaze white or pink, markings absent, fibrous; bark exudate (sap) present, colourless, not readily flowing (spotty), colour changing on exposure to air, to red (pale pink), not sticky; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.

Indumentum: Complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) present, hairs dense.

Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, spiral (leaves occurring singly at a node and arranged spirally up the branchlet), simple (a leaf composed of a single blade); petiole present, winged (to base (lamina decurrent), attached to base of leaf blade, not swollen; leaves broadest above middle or broadest at or near middle, 9.0-14.0 (-17.0) cm, 3.0-5.0 (-8.0) cm; symmetric, crenate, not dissected or lobed, infrequently obtuse or acute, venation pinnate, secondary veins open, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface green, upper surface green, indumentum (hairs) present, indumentum (hairs) dense; absent; domatia absent; stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescence on the trunk or branches, flowers on an unbranched axis, cones absent; flowers bisexual, stalked, flowers with many planes of symmetry, 5.0-5.5 mm long, diameter small (up to10 mm diam.) (c. 5 mm diam.); perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals whorls, inner perianth white (cream-coloured); (4-) 5, free; stamens 15-20, present, free of each other, free of the perianth; ovary superior, carpels joined (when more than one), locules 3; styles solitary, 1.

Fruits: Infrutescence arranged on unbranched axis, fruit 12.0-15.0 mm long, blue, not spiny, fleshy, simple, indehiscent, drupe; seeds 1 (-2), about 10 mm long, not winged, narrow (longer than wide), seed 1-10 mm diam.

Distribution: Morobe.
