Field Characters: Emergent tree or Large canopy tree (up to 45 m high); Bole cylindrical (40-60 cm diam.); straight; buttresses buttresses absent; spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark brownish grey or dark brown, slightly rough or smooth, scaly or flaky (thin papery flakes); Subrhytidome (under-bark) black; less than 25 mm thick, 7.0-10.0; bark blaze with two layers; faintly to non-aromatic; outer blaze red, markings absent, granular without splinters; inner blaze pink or pale red, markings absent, granular without splinters; bark exudate (sap) present, bright red, not readily flowing (spotty), colour not changing on exposure to air, not sticky; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.

Indumentum: Complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) absent.

Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, spiral (leaves occurring singly at a node and arranged spirally up the branchlet), simple (a leaf composed of a single blade) (may be imisinterpretated as compound because leaves small and close together); petiole absent; leaves broadest below middle or equally broad throughout much of length, (0.1-) 0.3-1.0 cm, 0.2 (c.) cm; symmetric, entire, not dissected or lobed, obtuse or sub acute, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface green, upper surface green, indumentum (hairs) absent; absent; domatia absent; stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescence terminal, flowers single (female) or flowers on an unbranched axis (male), cones absent; flowers unisexual, unisexual with male and female flowers on the same plant, not stalked or stalked (shortly), flowers slightly asymmetric, 1.0-(c. (female flowers)-2.0 mm long, diameter small (up to10 mm diam.) (c. 1 mm diam.); perianth absent; stamens 1, absent (anthers inserted on flat scale), free of each other; ovary superior, carpels solitary, locules 1; styles absent.

Fruits: Infrutescence single (female cone) or arranged on unbranched axis (male cone), fruit 5.0-6.0 mm long, 4.0-5.0 mm diam., dark green, not spiny (receptacle warty), non-fleshy or fleshy (receptacle), simple, indehiscent, naked seed only; seeds 1, about 10 mm long (7-8 mm long), not winged, broad (as wide as long), seed 1-10 mm diam. (7-8 mm diam.).

Distribution: Morobe, Western Highlands, Eastern Highlands, Southern Highlands, Central, Northern & Milne Bay.
