Field Characters: Large canopy tree; Bole cylindrical; straight; buttresses buttresses present (shortly); spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark brown, rough, slightly pustular or scaly or flaky, lenticels elongated vertically (not common); Subrhytidome (under-bark) dark red; less than 25 mm thick (c. 10 mm thick); bark blaze consisting of one layer; faintly to non-aromatic (like custard apple); outer blaze pink, markings absent, fibrous; inner blaze white (innermost zone next to wood) or pink, markings absent, fibrous; bark exudate (sap) present, white/milky, flowing (copious), colour not changing on exposure to air, sticky; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.

Indumentum: Complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) present, hairs dense.

Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, spiral (leaves occurring singly at a node and arranged spirally up the branchlet), simple (a leaf composed of a single blade); petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade, swollen; leaves broadest at or near middle, 10.0-21.0 cm, 4.5-14.0 cm; symmetric, entire, not dissected or lobed, acuminate, venation pinnate, secondary veins open, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface dull green, upper surface green (glossy), indumentum (hairs) present, indumentum (hairs) dense; absent; domatia absent; stipules present, free, laterally placed, not encircling the twig, leafy, not fringed, large (6-10 mm long), not persistent.

Flowers: Inflorescence axillary, flowers arising from a single point (female flowers) or flowers on an unbranched axis (male flowers), cones absent; flowers unisexual, unisexual with male and female flowers on the same plant, not stalked, flowers with many planes of symmetry, 1.0 (c.) mm long, diameter small (up to10 mm diam.) (up to c. 1 mm diam.); perianth absent; stamens 1, present, free of each other; ovary inferior, carpels joined (when more than one), locules 2; styles absent or very short solitary, 1 (with 2 long stigmas).

Fruits: Infrutescence single (multiple fruit) or arising from single point ('fruitlets'), fruit 23.0-50.0 mm long, (12.0-) 25.0-40.0 mm diam., orange, yellow, or green, not spiny, fleshy, multiple (syncarp), indehiscent, drupe (drupes clustered together with a fleshy receptacle to form a syncarp); seeds 10-15, about 10 mm long (8-10 mm long), not winged, broad (as wide as long), seed 1-10 mm diam. (c. 8 mm diam.).

Distribution: West Sepik, East Sepik, Madang, Morobe, Western Highlands, Eastern Highlands, Southern Highlands, Western, Central, Northern, Milne Bay, New Britain & Manus.
