Field Characters: Small trees 10-15 m high. Bole cylindrical 15-25 cm diam.; straight bole 1-5 m long; buttresses absent; spines absent; aerial roots absent adventitious roots may be present; stilt roots absent. Bark brown, rough, scaly or flaky or slightly pustular; lenticels irregular; subrhytidome red; bark thickness <25 mm thick, 6.0 mm thick; blaze consisting of one layer; faintly to non-aromatic; outer blaze red, markings absent, fibrous; inner blaze red, markings absent, fibrous; exudate absent. Terminal buds not enclosed by leaves; complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig without hairs.
Leaves: Spaced along branches <internodes readily visible>. Leaves opposite, simple; petiole present petiole 5-8 mm long, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade <not peltate>, not swollen; lamina broadest at or near middle, 5.5-9.5 cm long, 2.0-4.0 cm wide; lamina symmetric, margin entire, not dissected or lobed, apex acuminate, venation pinnate <secondary veins arising from the midrib along its length>, secondary veins open <spaced far apart to easily see tertiary veins>, not prominent, but visible, intramarginal veins present; lower surface pale green, upper surface green, hairs absent; oil dots present but often not distinct; domatia absent; stipules absent.
Flowers: Inflorescence axillary <from between a leaf and branch> or sometimes on the trunk or branches <cauliflorous-ramiflorous> on branches. Flowers on a branched axis; flowers bisexual sweetly aromatic, stalked pedicel 7-8 mm long, with many planes of symmetry <actinomorphic> perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals sepals very short, white sometimes greenish white or pale yellow especially in bud; free; stamens 100 (white), filaments present, free of each other, free of perianth; ovary inferior <seated below the petals and sepals; epigenous>, carpels joined (when more than one) <syncarpous>, locules 1; styles solitary <including joined together>, 1.
Fruits: Fruits arranged on branched axis. Fruit 12-20 mm long, 12.0-15.0 mm diam., fruit white, not spiny, fleshy, simple, indehiscent, drupe. Seeds 1, about 10 mm long 10-13 mm long, not winged, longer than wide, 1-10 mm diam. 7 mm wide.
Distribution: Gulf, Northern, Western, West Sepik, Milne Bay, Madang, East Sepik, Central, Morobe & Manus.
