Field Characters: Large canopy tree (20 m high); Bole cylindrical (40 cm diam.); straight (bole c. 12 m long); buttresses buttresses present; spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark dark brown, rough, slightly pustular or slightly scaly or flaky, lenticels irregular; Subrhytidome (under-bark) dark brown; less than 25 mm thick (10 mm thick); bark blaze consisting of one layer; strongly aromatic; pleasant; outer blaze pale yellow, with stripes, granular with splinters; inner blaze pale yellow, with stripes, granular with splinters; bark exudate (sap) absent; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.

Indumentum: Complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) absent.

Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, spiral (leaves occurring singly at a node and arranged spirally up the branchlet), compound (a leaf made up from two or more leaflets); petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade, at base swollen; leaves pinnate (unbranched with more than three leaflets); petiolule not swollen; rachis present, absent, absent; leaves with a terminal leaflet (the number of leaflets odd - imparipinnate), broadest above middle, 6.5-11.5 cm, 4.5-5.3 cm, leaflets opposite, asymmetric; venation pinnate, secondary veins open, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface green, upper surface dark green, indumentum (hairs) absent; absent; domatia present, scattered along midrib; stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescence axillary, flowers on a branched axis, cones absent; flowers bisexual, stalked; perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals whorls; 5, free; stamens 100, present (but very short), free of each other, free of the perianth; ovary inferior, carpels joined (when more than one), locules 2.

Fruits: Infrutescence arranged on branched axis, fruit 10.0 mm long, 10.0 mm diam., green (immature), not spiny, fleshy, simple, indehiscent, drupe; seeds 2, to about 5 mm long.

Distribution: Morobe.
