Field Characters: Emergent trees 30-55 m high. Bole cylindrical about 90 cm diam.; straight; buttresses present about 1 m high; spines absent; aerial roots absent; stilt roots absent. Bark dark grey or brown, rough, pustular; lenticels irregular; subrhytidome brown; bark thickness <25 mm thick, 8.0-10.0 mm thick; blaze consisting of one layer; strongly aromatic; cinnamon-like; outer blaze orange or brown, markings absent, granular without splinters; inner blaze brown or orange, markings absent, granular without splinters; exudate present, colourless, spotty, changing colour on exposure to air, to brown or orange, not sticky. Terminal buds not enclosed by leaves; complex hairs absent; stinging hairs absent; mature twig without hairs.

Leaves: Spaced along branches <internodes readily visible>. Leaves opposite, simple; petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade <not peltate>, not swollen; lamina equally broad throughout much of length, 11.0-22.0 cm long, 4.5-8.0 cm wide; lamina symmetric, margin entire, not dissected or lobed, apex acuminate, venation trinerved <three large veins arising from the base>, secondary veins open <spaced far apart to easily see tertiary veins>, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; lower surface pale green, upper surface green, hairs absent; oil dots absent; domatia absent; stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescence axillary <from between a leaf and branch> or terminal <at branch ends>. Flowers on a branched axis; flowers bisexual, stalked, with many planes of symmetry <actinomorphic>, 7.0-10.0 mm long, small (< or =10 mm diam.) 6-8 mm diam.; perianth present, with all sepals and/or petals (hence tepals) similar, white, pale yellow, or cream-coloured; inner perianth 3, free; stamens 9, filaments present, free of each other, free of perianth; ovary superior <seated above petals and sepals; hypogenous>, carpels solitary <monomerous>, locules 1; styles solitary <including joined together>, 1.

Fruits: Fruits arranged on branched axis. Fruit 15-20 mm long, 10.0-12.0 mm diam., fruit dark green immature, not spiny, fleshy, simple, indehiscent, drupe. Seeds 1, about 10 mm long, not winged, as wide as long, 1-10 mm diam. 8-10 mm diam.

Distribution: Madang, Gulf, West Sepik, Morobe, Central & East Sepik.
