Field Characters: Large canopy tree (up to 25 m high) or Small sub-canopy tree (usually or shrub); Bole cylindrical (30-60 cm diam.); straight (bole up to 10 m long); buttresses buttresses present (buttresses up to 1 m high); spines spines absent; aerial roots aerial roots absent; stilt roots stilt roots absent; Bark grey or brown, rough, slightly pustular or tessellated, lenticels elongated vertically; Subrhytidome (under-bark) red or brown; less than 25 mm thick, 10.0; bark blaze consisting of one layer; strongly aromatic; pleasant; outer blaze red or reddish brown, with stripes, fibrous; inner blaze red or reddish brown, with stripes, fibrous; bark exudate (sap) absent; terminal buds not enclosed by leaves.

Indumentum: Complex hairs present or absent, often star-like (stellate); stinging hairs absent; mature twig indumentum (hairs) absent.

Leaves: Leaves spaced along branches, spiral (leaves occurring singly at a node and arranged spirally up the branchlet), compound (a leaf made up from two or more leaflets); petiole present, not winged, attached to base of leaf blade, at base swollen; leaves rarely with one leaflet, mostly with three leaflets (trifoliate), or pinnate (unbranched with more than three leaflets) (with 5 leaflets); petiolule not swollen; rachis present, absent, absent; leaves with a terminal leaflet (the number of leaflets odd - imparipinnate), sometimes broadest above middle, usually broadest at or near middle, or equally broad throughout much of length, 7.5-15.0 cm, 3.5-6.0 cm, leaflets opposite, symmetric, terminal developing leaflet buds absent; venation pinnate, secondary veins open, prominent, intramarginal veins absent; leaves lower surface pale green, upper surface green, indumentum (hairs) absent; absent; domatia present, scattered across lamina; stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescence axillary, flowers on an unbranched axis or flowers on a branched axis, cones absent; flowers bisexual, stalked, flowers with many planes of symmetry, 1.0-2.5 mm long, diameter small (up to10 mm diam.) (c. 2 mm diam.); perianth present, with distinct sepals and petals whorls, inner perianth yellow or green; 4 (glabrous to densely hairy), free; stamens 8 (c.), present, free of each other, free of the perianth; ovary superior, carpels joined (when more than one), locules rarely 2-3; styles solitary, 1.

Fruits: Infrutescence arranged on unbranched axis or arranged on branched axis, fruit 4.0-12.0 mm long, red, not spiny, fleshy, simple, indehiscent, drupe; seeds 1, not winged.

Distribution: West Sepik, East Sepik, Madang, Morobe, Western Highlands, Western, Gulf, Central, Northern, Milne Bay, Papuan Islands, New Britain, New Ireland, Manus & Bougainville.
